Absentee Voting Info
States are making it easier for citizens to vote absentee by mail this year due to the coronavirus. Every state’s absentee voting rules are different.
Below you will find absentee voting information specific to Louisiana.
Absentee Mail-In Ballot Application Instructions
You may request an absentee by mail ballot by logging in to the Louisiana Voter Portal and following these steps:
– Click the “Search By Voter” button.
– Type in your First Name, Last Name and Zip Code or Birth Month and Year and then click the “Submit” button
– Click the “Request Absentee Ballot” link found under the Quick Links heading, complete requested information and submit.
Note:
You must be logged in to the Voter Portal as the voter for whom the request is intended to electronically submit a request for an absentee ballot.
The deadline to Request a Mail-In Ballot is Friday, October 30th. Your mail-in ballot must be received by the Registrar by Monday, November 2nd.
It is suggested that you request your Mail-In Ballot by Mid-October or earlier.
You may also print an application to request an absentee by mail ballot which you can complete and deliver to your parish Registrar of Voters. Delivery may be by U.S. Postal Service, commercial carrier, hand delivery or fax. If hand delivered or faxed, the application can only be for you or your immediate family member.

– Temporary COVID-19 Application (per court order in Harding v. Edwards (2020) for the Nov. 3 and Dec. 5 elections ONLY)
Absentee Mail-In Ballot Drop-Off Options
Request Absentee Ballot by completing the Application & Returning:
- Registered voters can request an absentee ballot two ways:
- Contact or visit the Registrar’s Office (337-721-4000)
- Get an application online at GeauxVote.com
- It is highly suggested that voters choosing this method do so as early as possible so that the ballot is received by the Registrar’s Office Nov 2.
Mailing Absentee Ballots
- Must be received in the Registrar’s Office by Monday Nov 2 to be counted
- Voters are encouraged to mail in absentee ballots by mid October.
- Mailed Ballots can be TRACKED using the GeauxVote.com website.
Drop-Off Options
- For voters who wish to hand deliver a mail-in ballot, please call the Office of the Registrar at 337-721-4000. The office is located on the 2nd floor of the Historic Calcasieu Courthouse.
- For curb side service: Call the Registrar’s Office, then meet staff at on the Pithon Street covered entrance of the Historic Courthouse.
- Drop off times: Mon – Fri 8:00 am-4:30pm (Closed SAT/SUN)

Methods for Returning Your Voted Ballots
By Mail (includes commercial carrier)
By Fax: Upon request submitted to the registrar of voter
By Hand Delivery: A voter or immediate family member of the voter may deliver the ballot to the registrar of voters
(a signed statement must be completed upon delivery by anyone other that the voter, certifying their relationship to the voter).
Emergency Provisions: There are emergency provisions in place for Military, Overseas and hospitalized voters.
